MESSAGE TO THE CONGREGATIONS FROM THE 2ND GAC OF THE 19TH GA HELD IN
THIKA HIGH SCHOOL- THIKA PRESBYTERY ON 12TH - 17TH APRIL 2011
|
We the 466 commissioners and delegates who attended the 2nd GAC of the 19th GA in Thika High School –Thika Presbytery send you Calvary greetings during this time of Easter. The GAC acknowledges the spiritual and physical growth of our Church despite the daily challenges. The Church appreciates the commitment and support from the congregations, parishes and the Presbyteries. The Lord encourages all of us to be energized in our effort to fulfill the great commission (Math 28:16-20).
The Theme of the GAC as expressed in the Moderator’s report was; “Applying knowledge for reconstruction and development in Mission-based on Hosea 4:6a; my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” The theme was further elaborated by the GAC Bible expositor The Very Rev Dr Jesee M. Kamau in a series of very enriching expositions. He emphasized God’s concern over the leaders and the people by freely revealing Himself to the world. He highlighted the consequences of failure to inculcate the knowledge of God. Such would mean destroyed fellowship as a result of personality crash, power hunger, pride, prejudice irrational obsession with property and perversions. He further expounded on what knowledge entails - knowing God which brings personal intimacy - and called for actions and lifestyles that show that knowledge is available and manifest “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened”(Romans 1:21). For further reading (Romans 1:21-22, 2Tim. 3: 5, 7)
Among other guests who graced our GAC were representatives from our Sister Churches in Burundi, Zambia, Columbia Theological Seminary, GA – USA, All African Council of Churches (AACC) as well as local dignitaries from National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Bible Society of Kenya (BSK), Bible Translation and Literacy (BTL), Christian Organization Research Advisory Trust in Africa (CORAT Africa) and representatives from Banks. The worship was enriched by the presence of various Choirs, drama and Praise in Worship teams from our various Presbyteries including our Mission Presbytery of Tanzania from where two choirs (Msasani and Bweni) came.
The Guest Speaker who gave the Key note address was Dr Arbogast K. Akidiva, the Principal Officer Education Department of Kenya Anti Corruption Commission (KACC). He called for avoidance of all kinds of corruption in policy making, policy implementation, permissiveness and regulations that pervert justice.
He encouraged the upholding of principles and virtues that lead to integrity. He pleaded with all Christians to endeavour to live up to their calling since God’s will is that all should strive to be blameless before God, (Philippians 2:14-16, Colossians 1:28)
In view of the many reports from the officials of the GA, the standing committees and the Presbyteries, the GAC wishes to communicate the following:
The Church and society at large should remain relevant to the current constitutional dispensation. When it comes to its implementation, Church members are called upon to play participatory roles in all processes. Advice was also given that Christians should apply for posts both the advertised and the elective at all levels. This will help bring up leadership characterized by high competence, ability and moral integrity.
As we embrace the process of implementing the new Constitution, all are encouraged to avoid negative ethnicity and preach unity as well as acting in a manner that promotes peace, unity and healing. The Constitution is meant to serve the entire Kenyan population and not only the leaders or any other political class or group.
The Church at all levels should address contemporary issues like climate change, food security, disaster preparedness, drugs and substance abuse, raising poverty levels, unemployment and political up heavals. The GAC urges all the members to be actively involved in prayers for our country, the continent of Africa and the world at large in the midst of the current political, social and economic challenging situations.
The GAC calls upon the Church to support youth and children ministries because they are `the foundation and the future of the Church and society
The GAC challenges and encourages members to embrace modern technology for easy communication, information transfer, data storage and analysis for accurate information and decision making
In conclusion we pray and hope that this Easter season will give all of us Spiritual impetus in faith and service in the days ahead “Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ in his great mercy. He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). |

MODERATOR – 19TH G.A. SECRETARY GENERAL |
PRAYER FOR PARLIAMENT OPENING – 22ND MARCH 2011
Almighty and ever living God, creator of all things, to whom all power and might belong, we exalt you.
We plead for your forgiveness and restoration over our failures and wrong doings. Help us to know that our true success lies in being rich in love, wealthy in good works towards others, and generous in sharing from your abundant blessing.
God Almighty, we thank you because in every generation you have raised men and women to lead your people. And recognizing that all authority and power belongs to you, we thank you for delegating to us the power to govern ourselves through our established institutions. We particularly thank you for the 10th parliament and the business scheduled for this new session.
We particularly thank you for the gift of speech for which our parliamentarian is called upon to exercise; we beseech you to grant them wisdom in and outside this house.
Grant them a spirit of tolerance so as to resolve their deliberation in harmony as we seek the people’s welfare and just governance of men as envisaged in the motto of this August house.
In your infinite wisdom, you choose to place us in Kenya, the land of our inheritance with our divergent culture, which contribute to the great wealth of our Nation for we need each other. Help us to share, to serve, and to seek a common good for all. Help us O God to amend where we are, and in your spirit, direct us where we shall be, that we may reflect your image in us God.
As we look back, we acknowledge that we have made some progress. It is in light of this that we seek courage from you O God to do what must and need to be done because it is our duty to make this nation greater and make dreams of Kenyans achievable.
We pray for the continued spirit of mutual respect and team work of our parliamentarians. Give them wisdom to lead with humility, the courage to lead with integrity, and the compassion to lead with generosity. Even when they differ, help them to share, to serve and to seek a common good for all. May they join hands together for a more just, a more health and more prosperous and peaceful homeland of Kenya. Help our legislators to live up to their calling and to fulfill their mandate of building a healed, reconciled cohesive and prosperous Nation particularly their unique mandate of implementation of the current constitution. Remembering, that we are because I am and I am because we are. Grant that we may not put off for another day, the good which we ought to do today.
On this day of opening of the 5th Session of the 10th Parliament, we pray for your all-sufficient grace, help our legislators:
- To be firm and unwavering in their resolutions;
- To be courageous in their actions;
- To be constant in their devotion;
- To be unwary in forgiveness;
- To be loyal in love;
- To be lovely in life.
Help us through the activities of this August house so that we may live to our own National honour particularly in the face of negative globalization; which at times may threaten our sovereignty.
Almighty God, hear our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, one God be honour, glory dominion and praise, forever and ever. AMEN!
